GEO will develop an Emblaze MPEG-4 video player for
the Nokia 9210 Color Communicator
New York - (Business Wire) GEO Interactive Media
Group Ltd. (LSE: GIM.LN) and Nokia Networks today
announced that GEO will develop a streaming MPEG-4
video Emblaze™ player and telco-grade video
server/gateway for the new Nokia 9210 Color
Communicator. The Emblaze Nokia Player and back-end
services for carriers will be available as soon as the
Nokia 9210 is introduced into the global markets.
According to the launch plan, GEO will offer its
end-to-end Emblaze Wireless Solution technology to
wireless network carriers -- enabling them to
establish video services for streaming live and
on-demand video to any Nokia 9210 Communicator
equipped with the Emblaze™ Nokia Player. Video
services will include applications such as live news
coverage, sports, weather, finance, on-demand movie
previews, road-side help, tele-medicine, video
messaging and more.
In announcing this most recent development, Sharon
Carmel, GEO's Co-founder and CTO said that, "We are
proud to continue our legacy of leadership with the
new Nokia Communicator player. GEO is expanding its
platform to support an even greater reach of mobile
media with the one of the world's most important
mobile vendors. We intend to continue to expand the
reach of our technology until every mobile user and
mobile handset/device worldwide is Emblazed with
MPEG-4 streaming video capabilities."
The Nokia 9210 is the industry's first Symbian EPOC-based
communicator device based on the ARM-9 CPU core. GEO's
Emblaze™ wireless technology for mobile devices is
highly optimized to work on Symbian and ARM-based
platforms, enabling the new Communicator to deliver
superior quality video performances with minimal power
consumption and efficient CPU usage. Earlier this
year, GEO introduced its Symbian based MPEG-4 video
player, as well as its cooperation with ARM for the
optimization of its Emblaze™ A2 and Emblaze™ A3 video
technologies for top performance over the superior ARM
RISC CPU architecture.
The new Nokia 9210 Color Communicator supports
dual-band EGSM 900/1800 and an HSCSD (High Speed
Circuit Switching Data) that enables up to 43.2 kbps
transmission rates. GEO has already successfully
implemented HSCSD support for its MPEG-4 based video
technology with several carriers worldwide for
security and traffic control applications. GEO's core
Emblaze™ error-resilience and dynamically-scalable
video algorithms ensure a top quality of service over
wireless networks. Nokia 9210 users will be able to
enjoy Emblaze™ streaming video applications on their
device either over cellular networks or through
standard Internet IP connections over Nokia's PC
Suite.
The company believes that HSCSD video-on-demand
services, already implemented with over 40 carriers
worldwide, provides a strong platform for further
market penetration of GEO's Emblaze™ Systems with such
carriers, offering end users a breakthrough mobile
communications experience.
